Celiac Sprue is an autoimmune disease that develops because of intolerance to ingested proteins (gluten) derived from wheat, rye and barley. The availability of accurate serologic tests have led to the realization that celiac disease is relatively common, affecting 1 of every 120-300 people in both Europe and North America. This translates to a market size of roughly 2.2 million people in the United States alone. There is currently no therapeutic option available to Celiac Sprue patients; the only treatment is a lifelong adherence to a strict gluten-free diet.
Artielle has designed and produced a new RTL molecule that may help control celiac disease. We are preparing to test this RTL in human cells and an animal model. If successful, we will follow the MS protocol and look to initiating human clinical trials.
