Peter McWilliams, Ph.D., Chairman

Peter McWilliams joined Sanderling as a Senior Associate in 2000 bringing more than ten years experience in biomedical research and management and was promoted to Principal in 2003. He has worked with Sanderling portfolio companies as a Director, Chief Executive Officer and member of the management team. Prior to joining Sanderling, Dr. McWilliams worked at Genentech where, as a Product Manager in Oncology Commercial Development, he managed a pipeline of oncology products in clinical and pre-clinical development and was the Commercial Team Leader for Avastin™. Prior to that he was an Associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton in San Francisco where he focused on projects for major US and International life science companies. From 1991 to 1994 he worked for Oxford Molecular, one of the first companies in the field of rational drug design and bio-informatics, helping to set up and establish their US operations prior to their successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 1994. Dr. McWilliams received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1996, where he was an R.C. Kopf Fellow and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. He received a Ph.D. in 1991 and an M.A. in 1990 in Chemistry from Princeton University where he received a Hugh Scott Taylor fellowship. He received a B.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University in 1987.

Shahab Fatheazam

Shahab Fatheazam has been a director of Virogenomics since 2001 and a director of Artielle since its formation in 2004. He is a Managing Director with Savvian and specializes in the healthcare sector of the firm. Prior to Savvian, Shahab was a partner at Vector Securities which provided investment banking services to the Healthcare Sector internationally. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Shahab has broad experience in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and other advisory activities for a broad array of clients. He received his BA and MA degrees from Cambridge University and his MBA from Columbia University.

Adolph J. Ferro, Ph.D.

Al Ferro, President and Chief Executive Officer, has been a Director of Virogenomics since January 2001 and a director of Artielle since its formation in 2004.  As a member of A&G Management LLC, he provided consulting services to the company from January 2001 until August 2001 when he joined the company as an employee.  He was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Agritope, Inc. from 1989 to 2000 when Agritope was sold to Exelixis, Inc.  Agritope, which is now named Exelixis Plant Sciences, is an agricultural genomics and biotechnology company.  Dr. Ferro was President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of Epitope, Inc. from 1990 through 1998, when Agritope was spun off from Epitope.  Epitope, which is now named OraSure Technologies, is a medical diagnostics company with several FDA approved products. Prior to joining Epitope, Dr. Ferro was a Professor of Microbiology at Oregon State University and is the author of numerous publications in both the medical and agricultural fields.  Dr. Ferro received a B.S. degree in zoology from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in microbiology from Washington State University.

Paul Quadros

Paul D. Quadros is a Managing Partner of Tenex Greenhouse Ventures. He is involved in the screening and selection process of portfolio companies for the greenhouse. Additionally, Mr. Quadros is currently Chairman of the Board of GenStar Therapeutics Corp., a developer of gene therapies to treat Hemophilia A and prostate cancer. Mr. Quadros is a founder of Tenex Medical Investors, an organization of angel investors with an exclusive focus in the life sciences. He served as Chairman of the Investment Screening Committee. Mr. Quadros is a founder and Chairman of Cardiac Science, a developer of automatic external defibrillator devices and software and TheraCyte, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of devices that allow human cell transplants without immunosuppression. He is also a founder and serves on the Board of Directors of cancerfacts.com, an Internet enabled disease management tools company, and AuthCath Vascular Access, a developer of proprietary venous access systems. Mr. Quadros is also an advisor to ENDOcare, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of surgical systems and devices and Spectrascan Health Services, the largest provider of mammography services in the United States. Mr. Quadros also served as a consultant and as a member of the Board of Directors of NeoVision Corporation, a developer of diagnostic and image guided therapy equipment. NeoVision was sold to U.S. Surgical Corporation. Mr. Quadros founded GenStar and served as its President and CEO when a strategic partnership alliance with Baxter Healthcare Corporation was completed. He was a General Partner of Technology Funding, a venture capital management organization. He joined Technology Funding as a Senior Vice President and was elected a General Partner. Mr. Quadros was a member of Technology Funding's Commitments Committee, also serving as its Chairman. During his affiliation with Technology Funding, he also served as Director of Investment Research and Director of Equity Investments. Mr. Quadros served as Chairman of Technology Funding's Medical Investment Committee and was actively involved in managing Technology Funding's healthcare portfolio. Mr. Quadros holds a B.A. in Finance from California State University at Fullerton and an MBA from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.

Allan Wolfe, MD

Dr. Wolfe has been a General Partner of UV Partners since 1989. In 1983 he co-founded Hambrecht & Quist's Life Science Ventures, perhaps the first "vertical" venture fund focused exclusively on medicine and biotechnology. Dr. Wolfe has extensive experience as a director of emerging companies. Earlier, Dr. Wolfe was an operating manager in startup and mature medical companies, including American Hospital Supply Corporation's principal manufacturing division where his responsibilities encompassed strategic and operating planning, research and development, manufacturing, engineering, and international marketing. Dr. Wolfe holds a BA in American Civilization from Cornell University and a Doctor of Medicine from the New York University School of Medicine. His post graduate training included service as an intern, resident and Chief Resident in medicine and a research fellowship in cardiology and rheumatic diseases. Dr. Wolfe is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern California Biomedical Council.
